Two New Recruits
5th February 2000
Sunburn’s two new recruits may be three decades apart in terms of age, but Sean Maguire and Paul Nicholas have more in common than simply joining the same show. Maguire, 23, and Nicholas, 53, have both combined acting with high profile, if short lived, pop careers, the former achieving eight singles in the top 30 between 1994 and 1997, the latter scoring ten top ten hits in the seventies.
Each is delighted to be back on television. Nicholas looks hale and hearty, if a little worn around the edges, as David Janus, owner of Janus Holidays. Fresh from a stint in the theatre, Maguire plays one of his new recruits. “I’d done a lot of heavy stuff, some soul searching and growing up, so I thought it would be good to get back into TV, preferably in something light: says the former Eastenders and Grange Hill actor. His ambitions, however lie in film: “Television has been my life, and I love it, but film is more etched in stone, a bit more lasting. You can still hit your market, but then it’s nice to go off and do an arty, cool firm so that you feel you’re growing as an actor”. He can be seen in British film Out of Depth later this year.
